Job description

At Astroscreen, we protect brands and defend democracy from harmful social media manipulation campaigns also known as astroturfing. We use machine learning aided by disinformation analysts to detect social media manipulation and disinformation. We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our growing team.

What You’ll Do:

As part of our Data Science team, you will establish and improve the core of our Detection Methods. You will research on current state-of-the-art methods for NLP, Graph Analysis and Time Series, among others. You will come up with new verticals for the detection of inorganic activity, and help Astroscreen to become a world-leading company for Cybersecurity in Social Networks.


  • Develop, evaluate and improve models for detecting social media manipulation (e.g. inorganic activity and botnet detection)

  • Create self-contained examples of your models for reproducibility

  • Analyze trends and detect inorganic activity in different social media platforms with the help of your models

  • Explain your insights and findings through data visualizations

  • Communicate with our product and engineering teams to deploy your models into production

  • Contribute with features for our Intelligence Platform, which the analysts use for tracking down misinformation campaigns

  • Imagine and engineer new ways of collecting data from social media platforms to upload our Data Warehouse

  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as Decision Trees, k-NN and Neural Networks.

  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.

  • You have good Python skills and have experience with its Data Science ecosystem (Pandas, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, IPython, etc.)

  • You are comfortable implementing research papers, and can develop these algorithms by yourself, end to end

  • You are comfortable querying and filtering data from APIs, NoSQL databases, web scrapers, etc. 

  • You have experience analyzing and modeling data, and have worked in projects that showcase your skills

  • You have a startup mentality, and enjoy getting your hands dirty with tasks outside the scope of your role or experience
